Message where you ever in visual range of IS Sahand after being hit with multiple bombs and harpoons? Or the Iranian Navy ship Joshan after being hit and becoming immobile?

Yes the IRIAF used the F-14s like mini-awacs and used the AIM-54 extensively. The IRIAF did have some encounters with the Iraqi airforce over the Persian Gulf (mostly during situations where Iraq would be going after Iranian oil platforms). I was just curious if anytime you came close within visual range, such as the time the US Navy F-14s were close to an Iranian P-3 Orion

The combination of the F-4, F-5 and F-14 in the IRIAF was a force to reckon with. The Iranian F-4s using Mavrick missiles wiped out the Iraqi Navy during operation Morvarid. One of the IRIAF pilots, Jalil Zandi, is qualified as an ace with the F-14. There is a long story behind how the Iranians acquired the F-14, when their original choice was actualy the McDonnell Douglas F-15.

I've talked to retired US and Iranian pilots that were in flight school together in the US and both sides spoke highly of the other.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the F-14. I am an aviation enthusiast and a big fan of the F-14.

I have nightmares about that happening...I'd be the poor bastard you'd hear about on the news that gets killed by a softball-size chunk while spreading out my body over the hood and screaming "Nooo!" (Having a conversation about hail damage) - BradZ (FL) on March 25, 2005 at 9:56 PM

Tell your friend that you could take a dump, light it on fire and that would be hotter shit than his car. Probes suck, that's just all there is to it. - 300ZXpert (someday) on April 04, 2005 at 11:35 PM
